The Largest Group in New York Wing!

Welcome to the Mid-Eastern Group website, part of the New York Wing of Civil Air Patrol. This site provides information for our group, and for members of the general public interested in our organization and activities.

Mid-Eastern Group encompasses seventeen counties in the Catskill/Adirondack mountain region, and covers more than 13,000 square miles.

Aerospace Education

CAP promotes aerospace education with both an internal program for its own members and an external program for the public. Aerospace education is an integral part of both the CAP officer and cadet development programs.

CAP provides classroom materials and lesson plans to teachers at all levels of education, and offers orientation flights to teachers through the Fly-A-Teacher program. CAP also sponsors the National Conference on Aviation and Space Education (NCASE).

Cadet Programs

CAP’s cadet program is for young men and women aged 12-21. The five elements of the cadet program are: Leadership, Aerospace Education, Physical Fitness, Moral Leadership, and Activities. CAP cadets participate in activities and events on the local, state, and national levels. Cadets also receive training in emergency services specialties and become fully qualified emergency services volunteers.

Emergency Services

With its emergency services program, CAP provides assistance to the US Air Force, New York State Department of Conservation, and other local, state, and national organizations.

CAP missions include airborne and ground based search and rescue, disaster relief, and homeland security. Both pilots and non-pilots are trained in a variety of specialties as aircrew, ground team members, and incident command staff.
